Chef à l’érable – Scena Jacques Cartier

So I finally went to a Cabane à Sucre event, after 3 years of living in Montreal. Thanks to eva for coming up with the place and idea, we booked for three people for the Chef à l’érable event at Scena in Old Port. Since we’re all city-dwellers and don’t own cars, this was the perfect place to go!

Fittingly, it was extremely cold that day, so all the hearty and warm, cozy food was perfect for the weather.

The space is extremely bright and open, which was really nice to just relax and chat in.

The event started off with a chowder of potato and braised ham, with green onion. The soup was perfect to warm us up from the unbelievable -20˚C weather outside. After polishing this soup off, I knew we were going to be waddling home with bellies full of food.

Overall, I thought this was the way to do a gourmet cabane à sucre. Although there was too much food, all of which was too decadent for eating in one meal, it was definitely an experience. The service was excellent, and each plate was done with much thought and creativity. The atmosphere was great, with families, and friends occupying all the tables, creating this very fun but relaxed feeling. Everyone was there to feast and spend some relaxed time on a Sunday. I would definitely recommend Chef à l’érable specifically if anyone wants an in-the-city experience of cabane à sucre!

Author’s note: Sorry for the late post, but I had this written up and just never posted it!
